Why you should order a Thyroid test.
A Thyroid test in the body includes T4, T3, and TSH. Linked to molecules, T3 and T4 in the blood is synced to protein molecules. The bodys true thyroid levels are defined by the free T4 and free T3. Thyroid levels of free hormone act as the hormone present to react with receptors of cells in the body.
Below normal are thyroid levels in hypothyroidism. Excess TSH is released by the pituitary gland and thyroid levels of TSH rise. A Thyroid test is performed when blood TSH thyroid levels are low, often kept down to levlels below 0.01 mIU per L, hyperthyroidism occurs. Patients with abnormal thyroid levels or thyroid function may have normal TSH levels in beginning stages of dysfunctional thyroid. Due to this, an FT3 and FT4 thyroid level test needs to be performed.
T4 is primarily produced in the gland of the thyroid with only small amounts of T3. In the liver, the majority of T3 present in the blood is made by conversion of T4 to T3.
