Affenspinscher
A dog breed that originated in Germany during the 17th century was made famous by its monkey-like expression. The little dog was popularly known as Monkey Dog. Diablotin Moustachu, meaning mustached little devil was given to the dog by French breed enthusiasts. Affenpinschers were bred mainly to keep rats and other rodents from homes and barns. In the early years of the dog’s development, these little dogs are frequently seen hunting rodents in kitchens, barns, stables and granaries.
A high level of intelligence, an affectionate nature and the renowned clownish personality are the admirable qualities of an Affenpinscher. The Affenpinscher is definitely the right dog for you, if you want a dog that will amuse you with its funny and crazy antics. This breed is really amusing as it has this attitude of showing off to get people’s attention every chance it could get. For that reason, the dog has left its modest corner in barns and stables to be the pampered and highly valued pets that are provided comfortable accommodations including the laps of its adoring owners. An Affenpinscher though has a cunning side. The astute dog can play up and take advantage of the master’s weaknesses. The dog is small in size but big in personality as it can easily compel the family to give in to its wishes. An Affenpinscher certainly makes a wonderful and ideal family companion but owners have to be aware of the dog’s domineering personality. A spoiled Affenpinscher can easily develop into a little tyrant. An Affenpinscher that cannot have its way will be in a huff all day. The feisty dog will not tolerate teasing especially from unfamiliar faces. The tough personality that earned this dog the “mustached little devil” name can be corrected with consistent firm training and lots of loving care.
The Affenpinscher is listed as one of the toy breeds. Apartment dwellers wanting to have a pet can consider an Affenpinscher as one of the suitable choices. Unlike other toy breeds, an Affenpinscher’s exercise requirement is rather high. This breed must be allowed to exercise daily. Be aware that an Affenpinscher is a highly energetic breed. Because of the size and the affectionate nature, pet owners love to cuddle the pet. An Affenpinscher not given the chance to let off steam will turn into a destructive pet. Well trained and well cared for, the Affenpinscher will be an ideal home companion.
